Good Things All Around

So, a little late is better than never!  Here is our update: After feeling sick to my stomach for the days leading up to Nicole's eye appointment I receive a call at 4pm the day before saying that unfortunately the appointment would be cancelled.  HUH?? WHAT!? Yeah I thought I was going to faint.  I politely told the person on the phone that Nicole was suppose to be seen after 4 weeks and now we were heading to 7 weeks before anyone had looked at her.  They called back after a few minutes and told us that yes the doctor agrees that she doesn't want to wait any longer to see Nicole so woohoo we were still a go.
Nicole was not impressed with the first person who tried to measure her eye pressure.  The lady would put her hand on Nicole`s forehead to steady her but it really just peeved her so she was quite unsuccessful.  She gave up and tested the vision in her good eye which is doing great.  She then tells me to please insert the contact lens so she can test her right eye.  I was like really? I don't think so.  I asked her if the ophthalmologist would be checking her pressure (knowing full well that she would) and the assistant said yes.  I said than I prefer not to get her ridiculously worked up getting the lens in because all the pressure readings will be useless.  She said OK and went to get the doc who was so patient and wonderful and with some time got 3 great pressure readings of 12-13.  It was the first time I actually cried tears of joy in that office.  Maybe things have actually taken a turn for the better?   I won`t even begin to remind myself of the fiasco that occurred trying to get Nicole`s lens in.  Let`s just say it involved having to use freezing drops so the doc could shove it in after many futile attempts.  Ah how I dread that part of the appointment.   So, in the end Nicole is still on a lot of meds to keep that eye pressure down, but it is in fact under control at the moment and for that we are truly thankful. We can now try and enjoy our summer as we don't have to go back until the end of August.
Unfortunately, we are having major light sensitivity issues.  I don't even want to get into it cause it brings me to tears...out of frustration and pain for my child.  I have tried sunglasses and sunhats which she adamantly rips off.  We have a sun umbrella on the stroller.  I don't really understand why it's happening because she was doing well outside up to now.  Always squinting but still tolerating it.  Now Nicole just full on loses it.  Sigh.  Today we actually had to pull the car over because the sun was in her eyes and she lost it.  Another sigh.  Maybe she was tired too.  It was the end of the day and she is an early riser.  Earlier in the day she had patched in the car without issues.  If only she could tell us what was wrong.
Oh and to add insult to injury, I tore her contact lens.  Didn't even know that was possible so you can imagine how horrified I was when the darn thing fell apart in my hand.  Nicole is now wearing her spare.  The lens is on back order for 3 weeks.  Two months is all we got out of it.  Lovely.
Now, to end on some good stuff.  Nicole is on the move!! She has been trying so hard for so long and a couple of days ago she actually did it! Woohoo!! Lookout Lilia your toys are all fair game now! And...today during dinner my hubby and Lilia were waving away at her....and she waved back!! LOL.  It was awesome.  Oh and another awesome thing...today while she was patched I put a puff in front of her.  And she totally and purposefully reached for it!!  So great to know she can see it|
OK so that is what has been going on around here.  Pretty good stuff at the moment.  Hope things are well with everyone else too!

8 Months Old!

My baby girl is 8 months old today!!! Doesn't that deserve a post or what!? What a delinquent I have been.  My girls are definitely a handful.  I knew I'd be busy with the two of them....but wow.  Not an ounce of complaint though...I love every minute of it! Unfortunately, by the time my two babes are asleep and the house is in order there is rarely energy left for blogging.  Sigh.  There is a cool project called NaPloBoMo.  Basically a way to do a blog every day.  I was going to try for June but really, who are we kidding here. LOL. Maybe next month!
Now, Nicole, a whole 8 months old today! Unbelievable! What a ride it's been.  I have to admit we've come along way since we first found out about her cataract and subsequent glaucoma.  Not to mention the lactose issue.  Sometimes I think about all the suffering that baby went through in her first 6 months and it brings tears to my eyes.  But we got through it and I know we will get through whatever else life throws us.
My two girls are having a blast together.  Sometimes I wondered if I'd had them too close together, would the older one feel resentful, especially with all the time Nicole takes.  But no, they love each other so much and I am so very glad they have each other.  Tonight Lilia was in her bath and Nicole was standing watching her.  She started to throw in the shampoo bottle which got Lilia howling which in turn got Nicole howling.  I had NEVER heard that child laugh so very hard.  I so wanted the video camera but there was no way of getting it without leaving Lilia unattended so I burned it in my memory instead.  I loved it.  As time passes Nicole is slowly getting to the point where she can interact with her sister and it's the absolute best.  My girls are awesome.
Wednesday is our big appointment at the Eye Clinic.  This is the longest we've gone between visits.  I think it will be 6 weeks from the last time we were there.  I am so so so nervous.  I think Nicole's eye looks good and she's doing OK patching but we never know until that tonopen hits her eye (numerous times) and we get that number.  I pray everything is OK.  It will be the determining factor for how our summer goes.  I dread having to get that lens in her there too.  Ugh.  Trying not to think about it at all.
So there you have it.  We are in a good place right now.  The weather is finally nice so we are getting outside more and loving it.  (Although patch time does not go well outdoors.) I hope Weds. visit does not shake everything up.  But it's OK.  We will get through it all.
A quick mention about the contact lens.  What a pain.  Given that trying to change Nicole's diaper requires pinning her down you can only imagine what lens insertion has been like.  Needless to say we have not attempted it awake in awhile.  We'll have to readdress that as she starts to drop her morning nap.  Not quite sure how this is all going to work when I go back to work but we'll cross that bridge when we get there. Let me leave you with a couple pics of my girls from today!

Truly Canadian.  Loving her Timbits. (Which she refers to as Timballs LOL)

Happy 8 months Baby Girl!!
